Meet Our Care Team

Mark Vishnepolsky, M.D.

Specialty: Nephrology

During medical school, Mark Vishnepolsky, M.D., FACP, FASN was lucky enough to have inspirational role models including one particular physician who was an expert in Immunology and Nephrology. Dr. Vishnepolsky explains it was this physician’s ability to handle intense issues with such ease and comfort that it motivated him to pursue the specialty of nephrology.

After completion of his Nephrology fellowship, the Air Force sent him to Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital, Nellis AFB, to start a new nephrology department. Within one year, Dr. Vishnepolsky was seeing as many kidney patients as two nephrologists combined. As Chief of Nephrology, he oversaw all inpatient and outpatient matters related to nephrology. He also established a nephrology rotation for medical students and residents. Dr. Vishnepolsky received a Meritorious Service Medal upon completion of his service in June 2012.

Dr. Vishnepolsky firmly believes in empowering patients by providing all the support necessary to effectively battle kidney disease. He deems kidney care a team sport with two players that are equally important to the outcome of the game: the physician and the patient.

One of Dr. Vishnepolsky’s areas of expertise is critical care/trauma nephrology. He was trained during the war and saw many young soldiers affected by trauma from IED blasts in need of dialysis. During his overseas tours he was deployed as a nephrologist to Landstuhl Army Medical Center to support both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. There he performed more acute dialysis for the treatment of severe metabolic abnormalities associated with war trauma injuries.

Dr. Vishnepolsky and his wife have three children. He was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and came to United States when he was 13.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
For me, the most rewarding part of my job is witnessing a patient’s journey from uncertainty to empowerment. I find it incredibly powerful to see that moment when they feel confident enough to take active control of their own health. I love that I get to play a role in them selecting an RRT option that best aligns with their personal goals, knowing that it will directly enhance their quality of life. Ideally, we can intervene on a patient’s behalf to maintain kidney function. Those are the best stories of them all.

What’s one accomplishment you’re especially proud of – personal or professional?
This one is easy: marrying my wife! It’s not every day that a beautiful and brilliant woman says yes to a guy like me!

What’s a hobby or activity you enjoy outside of work?
Both practicing and watching MMA, specifically wrestling and jiu-jitsu. It is very good for the mind to train under adverse conditions. My unhealthy hobby is following the Philadelphia Eagles. I live or die with them each week, Go Birds!

Meet Our RPM & KDE Care Navigator

Staying healthy between clinic visits is just as important as the care you receive in person. That’s where our RPM & KDE Care Navigator, Lupe, comes in, helping patients make the most of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Kidney Disease Education (KDE) programs.

Lupe works closely with patients to:

• Set up and explain RPM tools so you can easily track your blood pressure, weight, and other vital signs from home.
• Review your readings and work with your care team to address any concerns quickly.
• Guide you through KDE sessions to better understand kidney health and treatment options.
• Answer questions about managing symptoms, medications, and lifestyle changes.
• Provide encouragement and resources to help you stay on track with your health goals.

With her knowledge and compassion, Lupe ensures you’re never alone in managing your kidney health, whether you’re at the clinic or home.
