Every Choice Matters
Daily habits play an important role in protecting kidney health and preventing complications. This month, we’re focusing on consistency, prevention, and staying engaged with your care.
For Nephrology Patients:
Managing blood pressure, blood sugar, and medications can help slow kidney disease progression. Keeping appointments and reviewing lab results regularly allows small changes to be addressed early.
For Dialysis Patients:
Protecting your dialysis access and preventing infection are key priorities. Following access care instructions, attending all treatments, and reporting symptoms early helps support your overall health.
For Transplant Patients:
Taking anti-rejection medications exactly as prescribed is critical to protecting your transplanted kidney. Staying on schedule with labs and follow-up visits helps ensure long-term success.
Remember: Small, consistent choices add up to powerful protection.
Kidney Friendly Recipe of the Month
Honey Maple Snack Mix
Ingredients
Yield: 24 Portions
- 3 cups Golden Grahams® cereal
- 5 cups Rice Chex® cereal
- 10 ounces Cinnamon Teddy Grahams® snack cookies
- 6 ounces unsalted pretzels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 5 ounces dried cranberries, sweetened
- 3 ounces apple chips
Nutritional Information
Serving Size: 1 Serving
- Calories 214
- Carbohydrates 39g
- Protein 2g
- Sodium 169mg
- Potassium 80mg
- Phosphorus 46mg
- Fat 6g
- Calcium 56mg
- Fiber 1.6g
Preparation
- Combine Golden Grahams, Rice Chex, Teddy Grahams and pretzels in a large bowl.
- Melt butter in a small saucepan; add brown sugar, honey and maple syrup. Cook over low heat until sugar is melted.
- Pour over cereal mixture and mix well until all pieces are coated.
- Preheat oven to 325° F.
- Prepare 3 jelly roll pans by lining with aluminum foil and spraying the foil with cooking spray. (Can be done in 3 batches). Spread cereal mixture evenly over pans. Bake at 325° F for 20 minutes; stirring once halfway though.
- Mix cranberries and apple chips; divide evenly among pans and stir.
- Bake 5 more minutes; cool completely and store in an airtight container.

Gaurav Jain, M.D.
Specialty: Nephrologist
Gaurav Jain, MD selected the specialty of Nephrology during medical school where he was fortunate enough to have a number of mentors who were Nephrologists. Through working with them, Dr. Jain realized Nephrology is the most comprehensive subspecialty of internal medicine. Not only that, but Nephrology can present real challenges when taking care of patients with renal diseases—challenges that Dr. Jain confronts with knowledge and skill on behalf of his patients each and every day.
When working with Dr. Jain, patients know beyond a doubt they are in good hands. He makes it a point to care for patients as if they were his own family. He never rushes them, but rather, spends the time necessary to make sure patients are comfortable and educated about their condition and treatment plan. Further, Dr. Jain is dedicated to providing superior care in a timely manner—an attribute appreciated by both patients and referring physicians.
As a member of the KSOSN Care Team, Dr. Jain is committed to building upon our proven track record of superior care and well educated and trained provider base. Within the field of Nephrology, he has a special interest in hospital consultations, acute kidney injury and caring for patients battling Congestive Heart Failure.
Dr. Jain and his wife have two wonderful daughters and are happy to reside in Las Vegas where they are close to friends and family.
