Kidney Health Tip of the Month
Protect Your Kidneys in the Summer Heat! Hot weather increases the risk of dehydration, which can reduce blood flow to your kidneys and put extra strain on them, especially if you already have kidney disease or are on certain medications.
Tips to protect your kidneys in the heat:
- Drink water regularly
- Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks
- Stay indoors or in the shade during peak sun hours
- Wear light, breathable clothing
- Monitor urine color—pale yellow = hydrated, dark = drink more water
Special Note: People with kidney disease or on fluid restrictions should ask their doctor how much to drink in hot weather.
Kidney Friendly Recipe of the Month
Summer Salad
Ingredients
Based on 4 servings per recipe.
- 1 small head bibb or butter lettuce, torn
- 6-8 strawberries, sliced
- 1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, chilled and drained
- 1 small purple onion, sliced in rings
- 1/4 cup toasted slivered almonds
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Nutritional Information per serving
- Calories 250
- Carbohydrates 14 g
- Protein 5 g
- Dietary Fiber 20 g
- Fat 2 g
- Sodium 95 mg
- Potassium 265 mg
- Phosphorus 104 mg
Preparation
- Combine salad ingredients in a large salad bowl.
- Combine dressing ingredients: olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sugar, and pepper in a jar. Cover lightly and shake until mixed well.
- Pour mixture over salad, toss gently to coat.
- Serve immediately.

Meet Our Care Team
Dr. Deepak Nandikanti, M.D.
Specialty: Nephrologist
Dr. Nandikanti chose to pursue nephrology during his medical school training at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India. He was attracted to the specialty because if offered the opportunity to combine complex medical science with direct patient care.
While working at his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas, Dr. Nandikanti saw a high volume of patients with renal disease due to diabetes, hypertension, glomerulonephritis and several other interesting cases of acute kidney injury. This exposure further cemented his decision to choose a career in nephrology with a special interest in acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis and kidney stones.
After his nephrology fellowship at University of Tennessee, Dr. Nandikanti moved back to Las Vegas and joined the KSOSN family. He feels privileged to be part of such a wonderful team of physicians who put patient care first and provide comprehensive kidney services to the Las Vegas valley.
In his practice, Dr. Nandikanti works to keep a positive attitude and open communication with both his fellow physicians and his patients. He believes it is very important to fully educate his patients about their medical condition and treatment options. It is only through education that they can understand and manage their health appropriately. Dr. Nandikanti is very dedicated to his patients and to providing exceptional kidney care to his community.
Natrina Turner
Clinic Lead
Natrina Turner is a Clinic Lead and started with KSOSN in July 2022. Natrina is celebrating her 3rd work anniversary this month!
What are your hobbies or what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my granddaughter and my family.
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be my mom, who passed away, to hear her laugh, have a conversation, and see her smile one last time.
What motivates you to do your best work?
My motivation is my granddaughter, who says she would like to help people when she grows up, because she sees the way that I help people.
