BIO
Leigha Schafer, APRN chose to work in nephrology because the kidneys play such an instrumental role in the overall health of a patient. Multiple members of her family have kidney disease, and this drove her to want to learn more, so she could help them. She received her BSN from Nevada State College and her master’s degree as an APRN from Grand Canyon University. Her specialty is Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and she is board certified as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the ANCC.

She worked as an ICU nurse at Centennial Hills Hospital alongside Dr Boldur and Dr Mirfendereski and learned to be very detailed in the care of their patients.  She thinks all the physicians at KSOSN are great to work with. They have cared for her family members in the clinic and in the hospital and they treat every patient with the same care they would treat their own family members.

Leigha is a strong patient advocate and knows that effectively managing CKD can vastly improve a patient’s quality of life and prevent the progression to ESRD. Her favorite part of taking care of patients is knowing that she is helping members of the community become healthier and manage their diseases more effectively. She also strives to care for the patient as a whole and to provide a holistic approach to the patient with kidney disease.

She was born and raised in Las Vegas and plan to continue to live here to help the community that she has called home for her entire life. She is happily married and has 2 children. She enjoys taking care of animals and spending time with her family either at home or at the lake during the summer.
