Janal Kono-Boelter, MSN-FNP

Janal Kono-Boelter did her MSN-FNP degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hawaii Pacific University. She has more than 10 years of experience as an RN in the Emergency and Trauma Department at UMC Hospital, Sunrise Hospital and Southern Hills Hospital. She also has experience in clinical research as an RN. While going to nursing school, she was a CNA on a med-surg floor then became an ER tech, which made her fall in love with emergency medicine.

The decision to focus on nephrology became personal when her sister was diagnosed with kidney failure. After helping and watching her struggle throughout the disease for the past 5 years, she finally received a kidney transplant and is on the long road to recovery.  The excellent level of healthcare she received was pivotal in not only securing a transplant but also helped her to have a successful surgery and recovery. Ms. Kono-Boelter wanted to continue and support other patients like her sister and their families in this medical field.  She moved to Las Vegas to be closer to her sister and felt she had more opportunities with her nursing career here in Las Vegas.

She decided to pursue a career with KSOSN after seeing what her sister went through having to deal with her kidney failure. She wanted to become an advocate and educator for other patients like her.  She has a growing interest in nephrology and wants to continue to learn more about the latest and best practices. She believes that staying focused on patient care and support along with continued education is key in delivering the best possible outcomes to the patients. She has interest in learning more about clinical research trials and ongoing studies that focus on kidney damage and failure due to diabetes, HTN and other associated causational factors.

Ms Kono-Boelter is married and has two children and two dogs (Tibetan Spaniels).  She enjoys doing outdoor activities, cooking, travel and going to the gym (especially boxing). She also loves spending time with her fur babies, Kuma and Kona.  When time allows, she loves traveling back home to Hawaii to visit all her family and friends.
