Chidi Okafor, M.D., M.P.H., FASN
Dr. Chidi Okafor has always had a keen interest in physiology, the study of bodily processes. And since nephrology is the epitome of physiology, it’s no wonder Dr. Okafor chose to specialize in this area.
Physiology plays an integral role in the daily diagnosis and management of renal disorders—something Dr. Okafor has dedicated his career to. Today, he specializes in peritoneal dialysis and therapeutic apheresis. Dr. Okafor holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Texas in Houston. There, his area of concentration was Disease Control/Epidemiology which has greatly influenced his preventive approach to renal care. He has also conducted research at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as well as the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, which resulted in peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
Dr. Okafor firmly believes that focusing on patients’ quality of life is critical. Therefore, he works diligently to empower and encourage his patients to be active participants in their health care. He is an advocate of an integrated approach to renal care and involves the referring physician throughout the entire process of kidney treatments.
